Bearings transfer vertical and horizontal loads from the superstructure to the undercarriage allowing rotation and relative displacement when necessary.
Depending on their ability to compensate for displacement processes and transmit horizontal forces, all types of bearings can be divided into:
- Fixed: The bearing transmits external horizontal forces in both the longitudinal and transverse direction, enabling rotation, while no displacement is allowed.
- Guided slip: The bearing accommodates displacements in one plane direction and transmits external horizontal forces in the other direction, rotation enabled.
- Free slip: The bearing accommodates displacements in both plane directions, enabling rotation, and transmits no horizontal forces.
