The Rockwell scale is a hardness scale based on indentation hardness of a material. The Rockwell test measures the depth of penetration of an indenter under a large load (major load) compared to the penetration made by a preload (minor load).
The hardness determined by the portable hardness testers differs from the reference hardness by +2.93 %, respectively –1.75 %. The values measured by the portable hardness testers show less inaccuracy than the values measured by the table hardness tester.
