The Funkwerk name was there from the beginning

When you see a passenger information display at a train station, the probability is high that it is Funkwerk technology. The same applies to sound systems for announcements and their complex control systems. Over 80 percent of all trains on routes that are equipped with the digital GSM-R standard, maintain their connection to control centres with train radio communication devices made by Funkwerk.

Many innovative ideas that determine the standard today originated in our development department. Funkwerk has been producing electronic devices at the Kölleda location since 1948. Back then, under the name “Funkwerk Kölleda”, we developed and constructed radio communication devices, radios and even hearing aids. In 1992, Bavarian entrepreneur and engineer Hans Hörmann took over the company from the trust and founded the Hörmann Funkwerk Kölleda GmbH. It was important to Hans Hörmann that the “Funkwerk” brand, which is steeped in tradition, be integrated into the new company name.

In 2000, Funkwerk AG was founded. After rapid growth, where many companies were integrated into the Funkwerk Group little by little, the decision was made in 2015 to restructure with concentration on the key business areas of train radio communications, security technology and passenger information. Today, Funkwerk AG is listed in the mid-market segment m:access of the Munich stock exchange (WKN:  575314).
