OUR STORY

We Know It’s Not Very Original, But It All Started In A Garage...

Our founder, Bill Cutler, is what you could call an obsessive tinkerer. As a champion of water conservation long before it was cool, that obsession often turned to the showerhead. “Why should something so simple be so wasteful?”

That curiosity soon grew into an all-consuming quest to build the greatest water-saving product in history. Bill quickly began to accumulate dozens, even hundreds, of showerheads in his home garage to explore their inner-workings. All that tinkering paid off in 1977, when he developed the first Niagara showerhead—a watershed moment in every day conservation.

Forty years later, that scrappy, one-man operation has grown into a multi-million-dollar organization. The Niagara name has become synonymous with innovative conservation for a growing customer base of utility companies, government leaders, energy management officials, and eco/cost-conscious homeowners and developers.

Today—as climate change, population growth, and record droughts present an unprecedented strain on our water supply—we are more obsessed than ever. Niagara is doubling down on our purpose and pushing our technology to invent new ways for our customers to conserve water without sacrificing performance.

HISTORY

1977 - 1983

Bill Cutler forms Energy Limiting Systems and creates the very first Niagara brand showerhead. The product’s popularity soon inspires Bill to rename the company after it.

1986 - 1993

Niagara Conservation’s signature showerhead becomes the #1 product of its kind. Utility companies begin to enlist Niagara’s products and expertise in sweeping initiatives to save water in their region.

1994 - 2000

Repeating the success it had in showerheads with toilets, Niagara partners with large cities in need of smarter conservation. In New York City alone, 1.3 million toilets are replaced with Niagara models that cut water use in half.

2001 - 2008

Breakthroughs like the first flapperless toilet propel the company into a period of dramatic expansion. International offices are opened. Niagara products start appearing on the shelves of Home Depot.

2009 - Present

Innovation kicks into high gear. Niagara’s Stealth and HotStart Technologies set a new standard for intelligent conservation and inspire a flood of accolades, like the prestigious WaterSense Excellence award.
