    • Why FARATEC® GRP Pipes?

Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) pipes (also known as fiberglass reinforced polymer) have been in use worldwide for more than sixty years. FARATEC® GRP pipes have been in production since 1992 and exported to countries in Asia, Africa and Europe estalishing itself as a trusted brand in water and sewarge indusries. FARATEC® brand GRP pipe designs undergo vigourous long term and short term tests ensuring a minimum service life of 50 years. All of the production pipes are hydro and pressure tested, and all production batches undergo a battery of short term tests prior to release for shipping. We pride ourselves in having one of the most stringent quality control processes in the industry ensuring all pipes meet their specified performance specfications.

Our pipe designs have been in use in a variety of applications, including:

  • Potable water transport
  • Municipal sewage disposal and raw water supply
  • Desalination
  • Sea water outfalls and intakes
  • Cooling network systems and geothermal lines,
  • Fire mains,
  • Chemical processing and effluent systems,
  • Oil and petrochemical industries,
  • Slurry lines,
  • Ducting and conduits,
  • Power plants,
  • Rehabilitation and relining of old steel or concrete pipes,
  • Pipe jacking,
  • Cargo and ballast lines for tankers,
  • Micro-tunneling

FARATEC® GRP pipes have been used in varied conditions including areas of high soil erosion, extremly harsh environmental conditions, and highly earthquake prone areas without any leakage or other pipe damage. FARATEC® GRP pipes have superior performance compared to other piping material. They install faster, repair easier and generally require less maintenance.

GRP Pipe Advantages include:

  • Corrosion resistant
  • Long lasting, more than 50 years service life
  • No cathodic protection required
  • Smooth inner surface, less loss of pressure
  • Lower pumping requirements
  • Production lengths of 12 meters requiring less joints
  • Light weight and easy to transport
  • Easy to install
  • Low maintenance cost

    • Pipes

FARATEC® GRP pipes have been in use since 1992. They have been installed and in service in some of the toughest environmental conditions in the world with the lowest downtime and maintenance requirement compared to other piping materials. The pipes are manufactured in diameters ranging from 25-4000mm, and stiffness classes 2500, 5000 and 10000 N/m2, pressure ratings up to 32 bars, and working temperature ratings of up to 160˚C.

The GRP pipes can be manufactured using a variety of different resin material including polyester (isophethalic and orthophethalic), vinylester, and expoxy. They can be produced as uniaxial or biaxial pipes to suite project specific requirements.

Polyester resins are primarily used in water and sewerage transport in underground installations. Vinyl Ester resins are often used for aboveground and industrial applications providing excellent chemical resistance to a broad range of chemicals while having the benefits of high mechanical strengths at lower costs compared to the Epoxy resin. The Epoxy resin is the most expensive resin material used with applications in oil and gas projects providing high chemical resistance and mechanical strengths.

FARATEC® pipes’ internal corrosion barrier can be varied to suit the application specifications, and abrasion resistant GRP linings are also available for flue gas slurry handling.

    • Pipe Joints & Fittings

The decision on which joining system to use is one of the most crucial steps in any pipeline network design. Our engineers can assist you in choosing the most optimal joining systems for your applications.

All coupling systems are hydro tested up to two times working pressure as well as a number of other inspections prior to release from the factory. The joints are designed to meet performance and service life longer than the pipes.

We offer two methods of joining pipes, unrestrained (flexible) joints and the restrained or cemented joints. The unrestrained joints are typically used with uniaxial pipes where only hoop pressure support is needed.

REKA coupling, our most popular flexible coupling system, is designed for underground applications. It takes less than ten minutes to install, making it perhaps one of the easiest joints to install in the field. It uses a gasket system with a service life of more than 75 years sitting in a precision-machined groove to seal the joint. All our REKA couplings can be shipped separately or installed on one end of the pipe.

FARATEC® bounded coupling systems have higher axial support compared to the flexible coupling systems. The epoxy glue used to glue the pipe and couplings create a joint resistant against the strongest forces. We have tested various adhesive bounded joints and cemented coupling systems in pressures of up to 120 bars without damage to the couplings.

We offer two types of flanges, fixed and loose. Both are designed to meet various standards including ANSI B16.5 Class 150 bolting. We also manufacture other bolting standards per application needs.

Mechanical coupling (not shown), a non-composite joining system, is also offered. This system uses a flexible steel coupling with rubber gaskets to form a proper seal. The coupling can be provided for different diameters less than 1000mm.

The joints offered are:

GRP REKA Coupling

REKA couplings allow angulation of up to 3˚ of the for axial pipe movement of the pipes making these couplings most suitable for erosive soil conditions and earthquake zones. The joints can be designed for pressures up to 32 bars.

Key-lock coupling

This is a flexible coupling system similar to the REKA with the added locking mechanism giving it additional strength.

Bell and Spigot

This coupling system uses a slightly conical pipe end, which is inserted in a sleeve with two bell ends. A two component adhesive bond then cements the connection.  The joint is completely rigid after the adhesive is cured.

Lamination (Butt and wrap joints)

The pipe ends are abraded and laminated with layers of chopped strand matt and woven roving glass fiber and resin. The lamination method is less expensive compared to other systems, however it is one of the most labor intensive coupling systems and requires specially trained personnel to perform it.

Glued Coupling

This coupling system uses a REKA like system with glue to allow for resistance against axial forces. The joint is sealed with two gaskets and epoxy adhesive glue.

Flange connection

Our flanges come with EPDM elastomeric flat gaskets for diameters of less than 1200mm and pressure requirements less than 10bars. We recommend O-ring gaskets placed in a machined groove on the face of the flange for applications requiring larger diameters or higher pressures.

Fittings

All fittings are manufactured to the same standards as the pipes and are designed for the same pressure and stiffness classes as the pipes. We manufacture bends, reducers, Tees and other fittings to project needs in diameters up to 4000mm and pressure ratings up to 32 bars.

    • Manholes

  • We design and manufacture GRP manholes and manhole covers as per project needs. The manholes are primarily used in sewerage projects and can be manufactured in diameters up to 4000mm. GRP manholes are produced using the same filament winding technology guaranteeing sufficient mechanical strength to bear both external (hoop) and internal (axial) loads and are fully corrosion proof. They have excellent durability and can be safely serviced and maintained.
