Charlotte Pipe has been a trusted manufacturer of plumbing systems since 1901, and is the nation's top maker of cast iron and plastic pipe and fittings.

Charlotte Pipe is headquartered in Charlotte, NC has seven plant locations across the United States, and is distributed around the world. We are guided by the philosophy of our founder - produce the best possible product and provide the best possible service for the customer. We are able to accomplish this by combining modern technology with over a century of craftsmanship and experience.

History

• 1901 - Recognizing the need for plumbing pipe in the newly industrialized, post-war South, W. Frank Dowd built a small foundry in Charlotte, North Carolina, to produce cast iron soil pipe and fittings. The original Charlotte Pipe and Foundry employed 25 men.
• 1926 - W. Frank Dowd's son, Frank Dowd II, began leading Charlotte Pipe with the goals of expanding the sales territory and developing stronger customer relationships.
• Early 1950s - Frank II's sons, Frank Dowd Jr. and Roddey Dowd joined the company. They supervised the overall mechanization of foundry production processes during a time when many cast iron pipe foundries ceased to operate due to relentless competition in the industry.
• Mid 1960s - Frank Dowd Jr. and Roddey Dowd directed the opening of the Plastics Division in 1967 in Monroe, North Carolina, to produce thermoplastic plumbing pipe and fittings for drain, waste and vent (DWV) applications.
• 1992 - Charlotte Pipe established the Industrial Plastics Division to supply Schedule 80 pipe and fittings manufactured from both PVC and CPVC resins for industrial applications.
• 1996 - The Plastics Division began producing FlowGuard Gold® pipe and fittings for hot and cold water distribution systems.
• 2005 - Charlotte Pipe began to produce and market the ChemDrain® line of pipe and fitting for chemical waste applications.
• Today - Charlotte Pipe is the largest manufacturer of DWV pipe and fittings in the United States and operates one of the largest fittings molding facilities in the world.
• The Company now has satellite pipe extrusion plants in Muncy, Pennsylvania; Cameron, Texas; Wildwood, Florida; Cedar City, UT; and Huntsville, Alabama.
• The facility at Monroe is still the Company's largest plastics pipe and fittings manufacturing operation, comprising more than 1,000,000 sq. ft. for extrusion and molding, and warehouse capacity of 625,000 sq. ft.

Products

Charlotte Pipe has been in business since 1901, and the quality of our plumbing products has a lot to do with that. We manufacture the industry’s broadest range of standard and specialty DWV products. Plus, we are the only company that makes cast iron and plastic pipe and fittings. This means that Charlotte Pipe customers get the added benefit of a one-source supplier when specifying, purchasing and installing either or both materials. All products manufactured by Charlotte Pipe are proudly made in the USA and meet all applicable ASTM and CISPI standards.

CAST IRON 

We produce a full line of service and extra-heavy cast iron soil pipe and fittings from 2” to 15,” and double-hub pipe from 2” to 6”. We also manufacture a full line of hubless pipe and fittings, from 1 ½” to 15”.

PLASTICS 

Our extensive line of plastic products include ABS, PVC, CPVC, FlowGuard Gold® and ChemDrain® pipe and fittings for residential and / or commercial applications.

COMMERCIAL CASTINGS 

Charlotte Pipe’s Commercial Castings Division partners with businesses in a number of industries to produce top quality, gray iron castings.

SPECIALTY PRODUCTS 

As the only manufacturer of both cast iron and plastic pipe and fittings, Charlotte Pipe is in a unique position to offer some of the best plumbing systems. This includes our Quiet House system, as well as our ChemDrain piping system and large diameter fittings.
