Yanbu Industrial College (YIC) - An Overview

Yanbu Industrial College (YIC) is located in the city of Yanbu Al-Sinaiyah, Al-Madinah province, and is an approximately 25-minute drive from the Prince Abdulmohsin Bin Abdulaziz Airport, the city’s international airport. The College is located about 350KM north of Jeddah on the coast of the Red Sea, one of the main waterways that connect Saudi Arabia, the world’s leading oil exporter, to Europe and Africa. To take advantage of Yanbu’s strategic geographical location and to transform it into a modern industrial city, the Kingdom formed the Royal Commission of Jubail and Yanbu in 1975. Soon the city became the nation’s western terminus of pipelines to transport natural gas and crude oil to the world market. Realizing the increasing demands to develop Saudi’s trained manpower with a high level of technical skills and education to manage this fast-growing economic hub, the Royal Commission established the Yanbu Industrial College in 1989. Currently, Yanbu is host to over 20 heavy hydrocarbon, petrochemical, and mineral industries.

The Saudi workforce educated at YIC has helped a great deal in taking the initial investments from industrial developers in the city to a current all-time high of more than 14 billion dollars. In a matter of little over two (2) decades, the College has become one of the major sources of manpower for the local economy, propelling Yanbu’s industrial sector to becoming a major contributor to the nation’s development.

YIC maintains strong relationships with the local industry and the professions. At the top of our organization chart is the Industry Advisory Council, comprised of economic powerhouses representing the broad spectrum of industries integral to Yanbu Industrial City. The Council helps in evaluating and developing our academic programs, bringing our curricula in line with the needs of the industry. As a result, there is a great demand for our graduates in the market and the College maintains a consistently high student placement rate.

The YIC campus is home to Chemical Engineering Technology, Electrical Power Engineering Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering Technology, Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology students, who have access to over 130 highly qualified and experienced faculty members. All of our engineering technology specialization programs (Except Mechatronics) are accredited by the ETAC Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org whereas, Yanbu Industrial College was the first educational entity outside the United States of America to obtain ABET accreditation for its programs and that was in 2009.

The technical programs at YIC are extensively assisted by a number of supporting departments. This includes General Studies, Yanbu English Language Institute (YELI), Information Technology, and Instructional Resources. The YELI is one of the largest English language training facilities in the Kingdom and is home to around 70 highly qualified male and female faculty members working in four distinct colleges. The YELI received the most prestigious international accreditation from the USA-based CEA (Commission on English Language Program Accreditation) in 2012 and EAQUALS in 2016.
